The Slanted Door
The Slanted Door started as a single restaurant more than 25 years ago and is still a family business today. Charles Phan and his family fled Vietnam in 1975 and eventually arrived in San Francisco. They lived in Chinatown while Charles and his siblings graduated from Mission High School. With his roots in the Mission, he opened Slanted Door on Valencia Street to elevate Vietnamese food to the next level--modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. Slanted Door and Chef Phan were recognized by the James Beard Foundation as "Best Chef: California."
Charles Phan, Owner, and Executive Chef believe in sourcing locally and responsibly from wild-caught seafood, pasture-raised poultry, organic produce, and dairy from local farmers and growers. Their bread is freshly baked in-house with organic, non-GMO flour and grains.
At The Slanted Door, their mission is to bring Vietnamese food culture to the U.S., making it known and celebrated while perfecting traditional cooking techniques. They strive to push forward the sustainable food movement by working with responsible, high-quality purveyors and local farmers to serve food they're proud of.
