Timeless Natural Food
Timeless Natural Foods was founded in 1987 by four visionary organic farmers in central Montana: Bud Barta, Jim Barngrover, Tom Hastings, and David Oien. Their journey began with an innovative idea to introduce George Black Medic, a self-reseeding leguminous cover crop, to farmers in the Northern Great Plains. Though the medic crop system showed great promise, it was too unconventional for widespread adoption at the time. Undeterred, the founders shifted their focus to pulse crops, such as peas and lentils, which would become the cornerstone of their business.
By 1994, Timeless Seeds, Inc. had gained national recognition for its premium quality organic specialty grains, including the introduction of their trademarked Black Beluga Lentils®. Over the years, the company expanded its product line to include Harvest Gold Lentils, heirloom Black Kabuli Chickpeas™, and Purple Prairie Barley®, establishing itself as a leader in the organic food industry.
In their third decade, Timeless Natural Foods remains committed to sustainable agriculture, local communities, and environmental stewardship. With the acquisition of a seed processing facility in Ulm, Montana, Timeless has significantly increased its production capacity, supporting family farmers throughout Montana and beyond. The company also fosters partnerships with other sustainable agriculture businesses, such as Eighth Wonder, an heirloom rice business supporting indigenous farmers in the Philippines.
Timeless continues to implement sustainability strategies, focusing on reducing their environmental footprint, promoting sustainable farming education, and providing a safe and enjoyable workplace. As they look to the future, Timeless Natural Foods aspires to be a model business that offers unique, nutritious food products while being a responsible steward of the planet.
