Emmi Roth
The Roth family’s passion for cheese can be traced back to 1863, when Oswald Roth began crafting and curing cheese in Uster, Switzerland. His son, Otto, shared that same passion, and came to the United States in 1911. Roth Käse USA was founded in Monroe, Wisconsin in 1991 and incorporated all of the cheesemaking fundamentals instilled in the founders - brothers Felix and Ulrich Roth, along with their cousin Fermo Jaeckle - by their Swiss ancestors. Local milk from local family farms was used to ensure the very best quality, expert cheesemakers used authentic copper vats, and cellar masters carefully cured the cheeses on specially selected boards imported from Switzerland. The company quickly became a trailblazer in the American artisan cheese movement, and has been honored with more than 100 awards for its signature cheeses, which include European-inspired varieties, as well as innovative American Originals.
In 2009, Roth Käse became part of the Emmi Group, the leading milk processor and premium dairy company in Switzerland. Today, the company is known as Emmi Roth USA, manufacturing our range of handcrafted Roth cheeses while also offering Emmi’s full range of traditional Swiss varieties.
When you choose Emmi Roth USA products, you are supporting Wisconsin-owned and operated family farms and a company that believes in a sustainable value chain. We’re a company continually striving for environmental, economic, and socially beneficial business practices. Our mission is founded on four principles:
- We believe in respect for the people, land and animals that make our cheese possible. From the beginning, Emmi Roth USA has been a passionate supporter of farmers, cheesemakers and family tradition.
- We believe that everyone deserves to eat great cheese. With a commitment to tradition and innovation, we craft only the highest quality, best tasting specialty cheese.
- We believe in protecting the health of the environment and our consumers. Monroe is FSSC 22000 certified, one of the few US cheese companies to attain the most rigorous food safety standards ever issues. Our new Platteville location is built to LEED standards, resulting in significate reductions in water and energy usage.
- We believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work. Through partnerships with local philanthropic organizations, our employees have the opportunity to volunteer at events helping to connect our community with local, healthy food.
