Sabor Mexicano
Berkeley, CA
Jorge Saldana and his nine siblings grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico, where his mother raised them on home cooking exploding with the delicious flavors of fresh cilantro, garlic, onions and ripe tomatoes. Bringing with him his lifelong love of authentic Mexican cooking, Jorge moved to California and opened his first restaurant, Cancun Sabor Mexicano, in downtown Berkeley in the early 1990s. As a pioneer of simple, natural, and healthy Mexican food, he offered fresh and authentic, traditional favorites that brought out loyal customers in droves. Soon, Jorge opened Tlaloc Sabor Mexicano in the San Francisco Financial District.
Despite pressure to use processed food or canned goods to bring prices down, Jorge stuck to his core beliefs that farm-to-table food is not only the best tasting, but the best for your health and the health of the environment. With that in mind, he doubled down on his commitment to health and the environment by opening an organic farm in Sonoma County. This fully operational 130 acre farm grows produce for all his restaurants as well as their homemade corn chips. Jorge and Sabor Mexicano remain dedicated to bringing authentic, all-natural Mexican products made by hand to kitchens all over the Bay Area.
