Located on the beautiful island of Kauai in Hawaii, Kolo Kai Organic Farm is run by Ben and Colette Ferris, who grow, amongst other things, beautiful Ginger, Turmeric and Galangal.
They use no pesticides whatsoever, and Ben makes his own compost tea, which, along with chicken manure, further fertilize their already nutrient-rich soil.
Ben and Colette are proud to be able to pay their seasonal workers what they can afford, starting off at almost 50% above the state minimum wage, and offer top-of-the-line healthcare to anyone working more than 20 hours a week. While this takes a big chunk out of their small business's bottom line, they do it because they feel it's right. The relationships they develop with those who work on their farm result in people returning year after year, and the skills developed show in the quality of their product.
