Groundwork Coffee

Groundwork's story began in 1990 when they started roasting coffee in the back of a bookstore on Venice Beach. Their passion for exceptional coffee quickly caught on, and soon their coffee outsold the books. Today, nearly 30 years later, Groundwork has cafes scattered along the west coast and two bustling roasteries in Los Angeles and Portland. Throughout their journey, they have been fortunate to witness the growth of numerous new organic coffee farms worldwide and take pride in sharing these exceptional coffees with their local community. Groundwork's commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of their operations. They maintain rigorous standards, source only organic and high-quality coffee, and roast it in small batches daily to ensure the best taste. By choosing organic, they not only prioritize the well-being of their customers but also support clean environments for farmers at origin. Through direct trade collaborations, they work closely with coffee farmers, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable coffee industry. In 2022, Groundwork achieved B-Corp certification, further solidifying their dedication to ethical and sustainable practices. They are proud to have released the first-ever Regenerative Organic Certified™ coffee in collaboration with Cooperativa Sacaclí and Coffee United. This certification goes beyond USDA Organic and rewards farms that employ regenerative farming methods, contributing to soil health and carbon sequestration, while promoting animal welfare and economic stability for farmers and workers. Groundwork continues to lead the way in advocating for sustainable and ethical coffee practices, working from the ground up to make a positive impact on the coffee industry and the world.
