The Winter Nellis Pear is a late-season Belgian variety that's very sweet and aromatic, with a soft and buttery texture, if allowed to ripen fully. When ripe, the Winter Nellis will take on a yellower base where it once was green, though the russeted portion won't change color. When still on the firmer side, the Winter Nellis still has plenty of sugars, and makes a great baking pear, for pies or preserving.
