Dr. Bronner’s was founded in 1948 by Emanuel Bronner, a third-generation master soapmaker from a German-Jewish soapmaking family. To this day the company is still family-owned and run, producing organic and fair-trade products for body and home. Dr. Bronner's is a global leader of Fair Trade practices, creating or partnering with fair trade and organic projects from Sri Lanka (coconut oil) to Ghana (palm oil), Palestine and Israel (olive oil), and more. An estimated 10,000 people around the world benefit directly from their fair trade projects, and Dr. Bronner's supports the development of domestic fair trade programs in North America as well.
In addition to being a leader in organic and fair trade supply chains, Dr. Bronner's is a founding member of the Regenerative Organic Certification. This works to build a more holistic organic certification by encompassing pasture-based animal welfare, fairness for farmers and workers, and robust requirements for soil health and land management.
