Curio Spice Company
Curio Spice Co. was founded in 2015 by Claire Cheney, whose journey began in a saffron field in Northern Greece. Claire witnessed the disconnect between the rich history of spice trade and the modern exploitation of land and farmers. Driven by a mission to change this, Claire and the Curio team have been dedicated to reestablishing respect for spice farmers and the land, while crafting unique spice blends that celebrate the sense of place.
Curio specializes in directly-sourced, small-batch spices from New England and smallholder farms worldwide. The company pays significantly above Fair Trade prices—up to ten times the commodity rate—to ensure exceptional quality and to improve farmer livelihoods. Curio's commitment extends beyond the spice trade, contributing to initiatives that promote gender equality, climate resilience, and community empowerment through Curio for a Cause.
As a woman-owned benefit corporation and certified B-Corp®, Curio Spice Co. continues to foster culinary creativity while staying deeply rooted in ethical sourcing, sustainability, and respect for the land. They also engage their local community through educational events and classes, sharing their passion for spices that burst with flavor and integrity.
