RobinSong Farms
Templeton, CA
RobinSong Farms in Templeton, CA was established in 2014 by Brandon Sanders, Roxanne Porter, and their two farm dogs, Bear and Cub. They grow only heirloom vegetables, grains and legumes on two acres (with four acres for expansion) of flat, clay loam soil. They also have an 80-tree pomegranate orchard, which is now dry-farmed. They take immense pride in producing nutritious, high quality food, with minimal ecological impact (focusing, also, on the indirect effects of their farming methods). They use no off-site inputs, such as soil amendments and pesticides, including Certified Organic materials. They save their seed, fertilizer with cover crops, and let the insects eat insects. In addition, they use virtually no plastic on the farm and act responsibly with their hydrological resources.

Mission Statement: We strive to produce nutritious food in a natural system, without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and plastic products. We don't even use Organic (OMRI approved) outside inputs. We believe in building our soil through rotation, prescriptive cover-cropping, and on-site composting, in order to ensure the most authentic and balanced nutrient profile, in addition to decreasing our ecological footprint. We view a farm as an ecosystem: equally as fragile, yet resilient and diverse, as those found in our open-spaces. Being inspired by the simplicity and authenticity of past generations, we feel that this minimal-input farming method is 'traditional' and reminiscent of a time when concentrated nutrients and chemicals were not an option; a farmer was required to rely on natural processes and their own observations. We combine this simplicity with contemporary agroecological knowledge in order to be the best farmers we know how to be, and to avoid the mistakes made by, both, past generations and today's agribusiness industry. We are learning every day. RobinSong Farms is our ode to our grandparents and our contribution to our children.
