The Sommerfeld Apple is a fairly new variety gaining a reputation for it's excellent eating quality. Discovered as a chance seedling growing in a Gala, Fuji Orchard in the Central Valley, the Sommerfeld apple is believed to be a cross between these two varieties. Large, crisp and very juicy with a well-balanced flavor, these apples hold up to temperatures when baked in tarts and pies. The Sommerfeld apple's flavor makes a naturally sweet and very delicious homemade apple sauce.
