Have you ever tried Kohlrabi? The name Kohlrabi in German means "cabbage turnip" and tastes a lot like broccoli stems. They are great raw sliced in a salad or roasted with olive oil! Snap off the leaves, give the bulb (technically just an odd-shaped stem) a quick shave, and roast the remainder until it's slightly browned and oh-so-sweet. The leaves can be saved for a long braise to tender them up.
