Makes about 2 dozen cookies
Active Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line 2 sheet pans with parchment. Set the dough and butter on the counter and let it start to come to room temperature, 10 minutes.
Step 2
On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough about ¼-inch thick. Use cookie cutters to stamp out shapes. Transfer the shapes to the prepared pans and bake just until firm, 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool completely.
Step 3
Meanwhile, make the frosting: In a bowl, combine the powdered sugar, ½ cup butter, at room temperature, ¼ cup milk, and a pinch of salt. Using a handheld electric mixer, beat until fluffy.
Step 4
When the cookies are cool, spread with the frosting. Serve right away or transfer to an airtight container and store for up to 5 days.
