Anchor Brewing Company
San Francisco, CA
The history of Anchor Brewing starts in the Gold Rush era, with a beer-and-billiards hall turned brewery. Since those days, Anchor Brewing has been an integral part of the city and of the history of craft beer. In 1965, Fritz Maytag dove into the craft beer world by purchasing his favorite brewery when he heard it was shuttering its doors. Under his leadership, Anchor continued to make the San Francisco iconic Steam Beer, as well as releasing the first commercial IPA, Porter, Barleywine, and seasonal beers since Prohibition.
